Our team has made a big effort to be involved in our community by offering various science camps and participating in community events. We also give presentations about the advantages of FIRST Robotics and demonstrate our robots at local schools and businesses. We have found many people have never heard of FIRST Robotics, causing us to spread the knowledge of FIRST even more vigorously!
This Febuary, we again held The Engineering Showcase to allow the public to come in and check out the Bullbots "robot in progress", as well as learn about all the other robotics and engineering programs in the Meridian School District. This year we featured FIRST Team 1891, FLL Team - the "Fruit Kabots", the Vex program, along with the TSA (Technical Student Association) program. Enigineering teachers from the district came with displays from their engineering classes.

We are proud to be fixtures at this all day event sponsored by Boise State University, which showcases engineering programs, like FRC, FLL, and VEX and activities that promote technology and science in the community. This year we demonstated our 2008 and 2011 FRC robots to thousands of visitors and promoted the FIRST program. Many children (and adults) were thrilled to receive a robot hug from our 2008 (Overdrive) robot.

This year we developed curriculum on different topics for several 3-hour long science mini-camps to provide more opportunites for children to learn about science and how fun it can be. We created several camps, such as NXT programming, rocketry, and sound. The kids who came all had a great time learning about how much fun science can be. We hope to be able to continue with these camps during Spring Break and beyond.
In November, we made a presentation and demonstrated our 2011 robot, "Seymour", to the Idaho Chapter of the ACEC (American Council of Engineering Companies). We discussed the FIRST Robotics program along with mentoring opportunities and the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs in area schools. We were surprised to discover that many of these companies were unaware of the FIRST program. We were happy to educate them on the program, though, and tell them about its impact on youth in the community and the relationships it has fostered with area engineers.
In November, we also gave a presentation to the "Technology in Idaho Schools" task force created by State School Superintendant Tom Luna to examine technology opportunities in the classroom. We were honored to meet many state officials and educate them on the FIRST Program, its impact on youth here in Idaho, and the Bullbots' efforts to further science and technology to local students.
The Bullbots are proud to be in our 3rd year of participation in the Ada County Relay for Life. This all-night walk-a-thon raises funds for the American Cancer Society and its many local programs. The motto of the event is "Cancer does not sleep, so we do not sleep". Every year, we raise funds and then walk around one of the local high school's track all night. We even bring our robot; she walks around the track with us as well. This year we were able to raise over $1,200. Our participation is dedicated to all those who have lost their battle with cancer and to those who are currently fighting.

For the past 3 years we have hosted LEGO™ Camps, and we've used it to raise money for the Bullbots. We've offered two sessions of Summer Camp this last year. We also offered a session of "Parent/Pal" for younger campers and a "Pal" to help them. Between these three camps we introduced LEGO™ Robotics to 100's of children! Come to camp this summer!
In March, we met with Dr. Linda Clark, superintendent of Joint School District No. 2, to continue our partnership with the school district. She is very supportive of our team and wants to do all she can to help.
February 17th, we held a community involvement night where we showed our community what happens during the build season. This event highlighted all of the STEM programs in the Meridian School District as well as area FLL and FTC teams. The event was also featured on the local news, where we were able to educate the community about our program and discuss the importance of STEM programs in the Meridian School District.
We are frequently requested to do demonstrations at the Garden City Library.
This all-day event attracts thousands of people across the Treasure Valley. This was our fourth year participating in this event. Every year, we run demonstrations of our FRC robots and team up with FLL teams to show off those robots as well.
