FIRST's History

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people and cultivate their interest in the sciences. The non-profit organization based in Manchester, New Hampshire, is the vision of Dean Kamen: inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate of science and technology. His passion for showing adolescents the rewards of participating in engineering is the basis of FIRST. 

FIRST's Mission

FIRST's mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting, mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
