First and Last Name Gavin Huggins -------------------------------------------- How many years have you been a mentor for FIRST? second time 'round -------------------------------------------- Tell us a little about your back ground (education, current job, ect...) -AS Degree from Western Wyoming Community College. -BS Degree from the University of Wyoming. -Worked five years in Tucson AZ with the government contracting company Raytheon Missile Systems designing missile defense guidence control electronics. -Past two years as an electronics design engineer at Micron Technoligies desiging QA and PE test equipment. -------------------------------------------- Why did you get involved as a FIRST mentor at MVHS? I really believe in what Dean Kamen is working for.  Our society has become lazy and greedy.  We need to get the future of this country to be excited about math, physics, chemistry, and engineering.  Our understanding of science is what has made us such a great country and we cannot loose site of that. -------------------------------------------- Tell us about some of your hobbies. When I'm not helping MVHS kids create the greatest robot in the world, you might find me enjoying one of these fine activities; Dirt biking, motorcycle riding, water or snow skiing, jogging, Mtn biking, fishing, kayaking or white water rafting. -------------------------------------------- Share a story about your involvement as a mentor that you would like to share with others. In last years competition, there were very few robots that actually achieved scoring in autonomous mode.  Team 1891's robot "Chuck Norris," had several autonomous modes to choose from each being equally accurate.  During the semifinal rounds our competition studied our auto mode and found a way to block us from scoring.  At the last moment, the kids decided to reprogram the robot on the fly an choose a different autonomous mode.  It worked.  The opposition came out to block us as if they knew where we would be going but was completely wrong.  Chuck Norris drove around the blocking bot and helped the alliance to win the autonomous round. --------------------------------------------
