First and Last Name Jeff Barnes -------------------------------------------- How many years have you been a mentor for FIRST? 1.0 -------------------------------------------- Tell us a little about your back ground (education, current job, ect...) Well, I am currently a student at Boise State University. I am finishing my second semester at the moment. My major is currently Mechanical Engineering, with minors in Math, English and possibly French. As for my employment, well I am a poor college student, and don't have a job at the moment...I'm still working on that part. -------------------------------------------- Why did you get involved as a FIRST mentor at MVHS? Many pages could be written on this subject, but the biggest reason is because I was a student on the team last year (2007). I had so much fun, and learned so much about engineering and mechanical concept that I couldn't stay away. I also want to share the enjoyment and satisfaction of accomplishing a task, while still learning practical skills they can use in their everyday life. It is something that school doesn't teach very well--Practical Application. I want to change that, and the easiest way is by being a mentor. -------------------------------------------- Tell us about some of your hobbies. My Girlfriend, Math, English, More Math, Science, Engineering, More Math, Robotics...that should be #2, Movies, Homework (unfortunately)...other than that, I am pretty much tied up with school work. -------------------------------------------- Share a story about your involvement as a mentor that you would like to share with others. I have yet to have such an experience, but I think that when the robot is finally finished, and in the box, ...maybe I will have an amazing story to tell y'all, but until then, I apologize for the lack of one. --------------------------------------------
